19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts

A revitalized the Russian player secured his first championship for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a former number one, has had a torrid year, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with former mentor Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the past month - peaking in a closely contested three-set win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden title following the Rome competition and first on a hard court from spring of that year.

Victory also means Medvedev has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one different tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is particularly special," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, including in that event earlier this year.

His counter-punching approach and recurring reactions on the playing surface had prompted observers to doubt if his capacity to compete at the elite level was over.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an better service.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky opponent, securing 4 of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The pair traded break points in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden tour victory, took control to create a decider.

Moutet defended four early chances in a tight deciding set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner clinched the win with a shot at the net, with his opponent incapable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
